Everyone who walks through CVI’s doors enters with a different story. VisAbility store associate, Habtamu Wilson’s, story begins with his diagnosis of glaucoma as a young child. His dad found CVI when he was searching for a summer camp specifically for children with low vision. Immediately, Habtamu felt welcomed and at home in an environment with children just like him. As he grew older, he continued to attend summer camp and other youth programs. After a brief hiatus from CVI, Habtamu returned to complete Orientation and Mobility training with Ernest Burton, Senior Manager of Adult Services, and technology training with former technology instructor, Greg Aiken. When Habtamu learned that Greg was also visually impaired, his confidence soared and he felt that anything was possible for him, despite his vision loss.Young man in black gestures at products in the VisAbility Story

Habtamu currently works at our VisAbility Store, where he feels honored to give back to the community that plays such an important role in his life. He provides customers with a unique experience, providing more personalized recommendations for devices and other products since he uses many of them himself. His favorite part of working in the store is helping people. Habtamu said, “Every time a client walks out of our store, they leave with a device they didn’t know existed. Our clients are amazed by the devices we offer, but they would never know these existed unless they stepped foot in our store. It’s a great feeling knowing that I can add something positive to their story of vision loss.
