Volunteer Opportunities at CVI

Volunteer at CVI

CVI is excited to reintroduce our volunteer opportunities!

If you have an interest in volunteering at CVI, our satellite locations or our events, please fill out the form here and we will reach out to you for further information about our volunteer orientation and sign-up slots.

Volunteer Interest FormGroup Volunteer Interest Form

All volunteer opportunities are in-person. Volunteer time slots are sent out via newsletter every month, and slots are first-come-first serve.

If you plan to volunteer on a regular basis, please indicate that in your sign-up form and we will coordinate a specific time with you.

General volunteer expectations are as follows:

  • Attend an official CVI volunteer orientation over Microsoft Teams
    • Orientation meetings take place on the first Thursday of the month.
    • The next volunteer meeting will be on October 2nd at 4:00pm
    • Please fill out the volunteer interest form above to receive the meeting link
  • Volunteers must provide and pass a background check, obtained by their own means.
    • For college students, universities typically provide free or low-cost background checks for students
    • Older background checks are accepted, but must not be dated further back than six months prior to the volunteer start date.
  • Volunteers are expected to show up when they sign up for a volunteer slot. We ask volunteers to give at least 24-hours notice if they no longer plan to volunteer on a given day.
    • Consistent failure to show or notify staff if a volunteer does not show up will result in termination of volunteer status at CVI
  • Volunteers are not required to volunteer on a consistent basis; however, they are encouraged to donate their time at least once every six months to stay up to date with CVI.
    • If an individual has not volunteered in over six months, they will be removed from the volunteer listserv and will ask to re-complete the volunteer orientation and background check process if they wish to come back.

Please click here to email Sophia Ricketts for any questions regarding these volunteer opportunities and thank you for your interest in supporting CVI’s mission by donating your time and skills.

List of Volunteer Roles:

1. Greeter in the Florence Maxwell Low Vision Clinic (Any Location)

Greeters provide a warm, welcoming voice to clinic clients and help guide them throughout the building. CVI will provide training in acting as a human guide and HIPAA regulations. Additionally, greeters may assist clients with paperwork upon their arrival, make appointment confirmation calls, and help with other administrative tasks as needed. Volunteers are needed on a regular basis at the CVI midtown location and satellite locations.

Clinics are consistently held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the Midtown location, and variably at satellite locations.

Pediatric Clinics are held on a monthly basis at the Midtown location.

*Please note that pediatric and satellite clinics are only held on a need-based basis. If clinics do not have enough booked appointments, they may be cancelled. Volunteers will be given at least 24 hours of notice if a clinic is cancelled.

2. Intake and Resource Volunteer (Any Location)

CVI is seeking sighted volunteers to assist clients with intake and resource paperwork. Volunteers can expect to assist with required paperwork prior to a low vision evaluation, which is filled out on paper or iPads. Knowledge of using Apple products is required. Additionally, volunteers will assist occupational therapists (OTs) by helping clients fill in resource forms. These include but are not limited to MARTA Mobility services, the Georgia Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, accessible Bibles, etc. This is a great opportunity for face-to-face client interaction and to learn about available resources for the visually impaired.

*Please note that pediatric and satellite clinics are only held on a need-based basis. If clinics do not have enough appointments, they may be cancelled. Volunteers will be given at least 24 hours’ notice if a clinic is cancelled.

3. Client Survey Volunteer (Midtown Only)

This volunteer helps CVI understand how clients feel about their experience with our services. The client survey volunteer will call a pre-assigned list of recent clients to conduct a phone survey about the services they received in the clinic and adult rehabilitation. Volunteers will receive training to understand how the survey questions relate to our services and how to navigate the portal to submit survey responses. This position is best for someone with excellent customer service skills and who can be warm and patient with our clients. This is an onsite opportunity.

 4. Miscellaneous office/building needs (Midtown Only)

This position will assist the CVI office with miscellaneous office tasks and building work.

This includes semiannual donation drives, stuffing donation envelopes, organizing office spaces, assisting maintaining the outdoor landscaping of the building and other volunteer activities.

Volunteers for this position are solicited as needed, and time slots are not regular.
