At the Center for the Visually Impaired, we understand that as our clients move through the stages of life, we must continue to be a resource that provides the services they need along the way. From low vision evaluations to technology training, CVI is here to ensure that our clients’ needs are met, no matter what professional stage they are in.
Angela’s Story
Born with albinism, Angela has been visually impaired since birth. Upon completing her master’s and beginning her career, she came to CVI for a low vision evaluation, magnifiers, and Bioptic glasses so she could drive independently to work.
“I was able to drive to the train station rather than having to wait on two buses to get there,” said Angela. “It gave me more independence and transportation options.”
Over twenty-five years later, Angela stepped into a new role with different technology accommodations she needed to learn to use. She decided to come back to CVI for updated computer skills training to ensure her success at work.
“All my computer trainers were excellent. I felt well-equipped to use the program,” she said. “When I was getting the software delivered to my home, I was already able to use the skills I attained through CVI. Even the technician setting up my equipment didn’t know some of the keystrokes. It felt good to be able to use my abilities.”
In addition to her computer skills, Angela also received Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and white cane training at CVI, helping her maintain her mobility and independence as she continues her career.
“I use the skills I learned all the time,” said Angela. “Now that I have used CVI a few different times during my career, in the beginning when I came out of grad school, and now after 25 years, it’s a full circle. I have used it throughout my life.”
