The mission of the Center for the Visually Impaired (CVI) is to empower people impacted by vision loss to live with independence and dignity. Our Atlanta nonprofit has been supporting low vision patients with glaucoma, macular degeneration and other eye diseases for over 60 years.
White Cane Training is an important part of CVI low vision services, as nonprofit President Lisa Kennedy shares. “Working with our professional staff, those experiencing vision loss can confidently travel safely and independently in their neighborhood, across town, and other destinations.” During the month of October, White Cane Awareness Day is observed globally to celebrate the achievements of the blind and visually impaired community. CVI will host an open house to celebrate our clients’ success stories on Thursday, October 16 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. The event will be held onsite at CVI, located at 739 West Peachtree Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30308.
The theme of CVI’s 2025 White Cane Day celebration is Keep Sharing Your Story; You Never Know Who You May Inspire. For the first time, CVI’s clients are encouraged to film their stories and share their vision loss journeys in a video-sharing booth. Videos will be available on YouTube for clients and their loved ones to enjoy after the event. Light refreshments will be provided by Publix, and there will be a quilting craft project for clients to participate in.
