Fall is officially here, and we wanted to share some helpful recommendations for students from our VisAbility Store! The Center for the Visually Impaired remains a resource for setting students up for academic success. From low vision evaluations, IEP development to assistance tools and technology support, CVI offers a variety of services to help school-age clients thrive with confidence. Here are a few devices that CVI recommends for students as the school year continues.
Laptop Table
For some low-vision students, bringing their homework or reading material close to the eyes can make it much easier to see what they are working on. With a cushioned laptop table, classwork can be elevated and tilted toward the face, keeping students from hunching too much over their materials while bringing them into focus.
Dome Magnifier
With a small dome magnifier, students can easily magnify reading materials without weighing down their backpack. It enlarges text, pictures, and other classroom materials, helping students read and complete schoolwork independently and confidently.
Portable CCTV/Electronic Magnifier
With a portable CCTV or electronic magnifier, students can easily magnify their school materials while adjusting the contrast. With devices like the Clover Book Pro, high school and college students can use a built-in front camera to look simultaneously at the lecture and their notes, ensuring they don’t miss a thing.
High Contrast Keyboard
As education becomes more technology-focused, students need to have the right computer tools to thrive. With a high-contrast keyboard and adaptive Braille key stickers, typing can be easier and more efficient, allowing users to develop their computer skills and speed up writing.
