Support Groups

The Center's clients and their families have access to individual, group and family counseling, which can be a crucial part of the process of adjusting to vision loss. Many of these groups are also open to the public. CVI hosts the following support groups at the Center:

Diabetes Support Group* meets each Monday from 10:20 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. Contact Lynn Miller at 404-875-9011 ext. 4319 for more information.

"Living with Vision Loss" Support Group* meets each Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Contact Lorenzo Powell at 404-875-9011 ext. 4341 for more information.

Couples Discussion Group* is open to couples in which one member is visually impaired. It meets at CVI on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Pre-register with Lorenzo Powell at 404-875-9011 ext. 4341.

Adult Rehabilitation Services Men's Support Group is designed to specifically address the needs and concerns of men regarding vision loss and other issues. Contact Lorenzo Powell at 404-875-9011 ext. 4341 for more information.

Adult Rehabilitation Services Women's Support Group is designed to specifically address the needs and concerns of women regarding vision loss and other issues. Contact Deborah Shimberg at 404-875-9011 ext. 4303 for more information.

Seniors Support Group,* designed for both peer support and education, meets the first and third Tuesday of each month from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Contact Nell Robinson at 404-875-9011 ext. 4293 for more information.

Macular Degeneration Support Group* meets the second Monday of each month from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. The group features educational topics and emotional support for those individuals with macular degeneration. Contact Nancy Jennings at 404-875-9011 ext. 4343 for more information.

The STARS Parent Support Group is open to parents of visually impaired children enrolled in the STARS program. The group meets every other Tuesday at 6 p.m. Contact Surabhi McNab at 404-875-9011 ext. 4373 for more information.

BEGIN Parent Groups are open to parents and grandparents of visually impaired children enrolled in the BEGIN program. Contact Memri Lerch at 404-875-9011 ext. 4333 for more information.

Monday Parent Group meets the first Monday of each month from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Tuesday Parent Groups meet the first Tuesday of each month from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Wednesday Parent Group meets the first Wednesday of each month from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
